SCHAUCO's administration and sales office is located in Muelheim an der Ruhr, an old and traditional city of "leather and tanneries" in the Western Ruhr area of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Muelheim an der Ruhr can look back on a 350 years old tradition of producing leather. Benefited by the geographic location as well as the existence of huge oak woods as supplier of tannin, the city of Muelheim an der Ruhr became an excellent location for the leather industry.

The tanning craft and later on the industrial production of leather has always been an important economic factor for Muelheim an der Ruhr and even popularized the city as the "Leather City".
